This is an advanced level administrative support position working in the Epidemiology Department with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Collier County. The position is responsible for providing moderately complex administrative support to facilitate the operation of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Assessment. The incumbent must be relied upon to be able to function independently and with a high degree of confidentiality. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with current DOH Security Policies by fulfilling the Information Custodian responsibilities for files with clients/staff confidential information maintained in the Epidemiology Department as described in DOH Security Policy 3, Area of Responsibility. This position is at risk for exposure to Respiratory pathogens (Low Risk Level) under OSHA guidelines and requires annual TB Assessment which may include an Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) test; and is required to have up-to-date vaccinations for some vaccine-preventable diseases. This position reports to the Health Services Manager B-SES, Epidemiology Program Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

Associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred, advanced computer skills, a valid Driver s License and the ability to provide reliable transportation are required.

Incumbent may be expected to work beyond the normal workday in the event of a disaster or as needed. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters; or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

MAJOR DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:

  • Independently develops and/or maintains system for organizing day-to-day department administrative functions.
  • Maintain case files:
    add new material to files and create new files as necessary. Completes and updates epidemiology logbooks. Records, drafts and distributes meeting minutes for staff meetings and other meetings.
  • Composes responses for routine matters; researches issues and documents findings.
  • Receives and documents complaints of food-borne illness and obtains food histories.
  • Submits and tracks purchase orders, reviews invoices and resolves identified problems and discrepancies.
  • Formats, updates and distributes newsletters, alerts and advisories as needed to local health care providers and community partners.
  • Assists with writing newsletter articles.
  • Contacts physician offices to obtain basic case information and enters data into the Merlin and STARS reporting systems.
  • Assist with pre and post travel forms in the STMS system. Assists in the management of MOA s and Agreements.
  • Uses appropriate software to create tables, spreadsheets and presentations. Compiles data and provides administrative support for public health community initiatives, surveys and reports.
  • Review and monitor epidemiology information on website; recommends changes to keep information current.
  • Serves as the DOH-Collier liaison with Naples Community Hospital Healthcare System for staff access to Power Chart electronic medical records.
  • Participates in epidemiological surge capacity activities and responses.
  • Assists epidemiology program staff members in communicable disease/outbreak investigations.
  • Interviews and reports cases of enteric illness.
  • Communicates with healthcare providers to obtain information needed to complete investigations of arboviral illness.
  • Updates and maintains the monthly Communicable Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) Division emergency call list. Works with program managers to update the CDCP Continuity of Operations Plan.
  • Provides administrative support to the CDCP Division Director and programs when requested.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES DEEMED ESSENTIAL TO THIS POSITION:
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications including Office, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and maintain Hosted Fax software.
  • Ability to organize files, records and reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and complete work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with DOH staff, locally and at the state level, as well as with community partners and residents.
  • Ability to use data to create charts and tables.
  • Ability to elicit highly sensitive or confidential information for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
